What if I am afraid to talk about certain topics?

The more honest you are during session, the more you will get out of your therapy sessions. However, fear is real. I will work to create a safe space and therapeutic alliance with you, creating the most supportive envirornment for you and your needs. In time, that may reduce fear about discussing certain topics.

Will I be given homework between sessions?

Homework, or assignments, may be given in between sessions depending on the theories used and interventions created in collaboration with you.

What does the overal therapy process look like?

In simple terms, there is an initial assessment, goal setting, treatment planning, interventions, evaluation, and termination. The initial assessment is generally done over the first few sessions. The goal setting and treatment plan are done with your input. I would then create interventions that would enable you to learn tools and skills to help you in your situation. Regular evaluation is done to see how the interventions are working and if anything needs to be adapted or changed. As needed, goals, the treatment plan, and interventions can be changed. Termination occurs when all outstanding issues are resolved, the treatment plan is complete, and no further interventions are required.
